On January 10th, the Pongal celebration was held within the school premises, which was a grand affair. Numerous traditional games and cultural performances were held, fostering a sense of camaraderie. Students and teachers gathered, adorned in their finest ethnic attire, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu.
The celebration commenced with a rangoli competition. Girls and teachers showcased their creativity and artistic prowess by creating intricate and beautiful designs on the floor using colored rangoli powders. In contrast, boys engaged in various traditional games on the cricket field, including a thrilling game of Tug of War, which tested their strength and teamwork, and blindfolded breaking of pots, also known as “Uri adi,” where boys utilized their sense of hearing and instincts to break the mud pots, providing a fun and entertaining spectacle. The event also featured a diverse range of traditional activities, including the preparation of sweet Pongal by the teachers, which was a delightful experience for all. The enticing aroma of freshly cooked Pongal filled the air, and everyone eagerly anticipated sampling the delectable dish.
In the evening, a cultural program commenced with the Tamizh Thai Vazhthu at the convention hall by 6:30 p.m., setting the tone for the festivities. This was followed by a prayer and Bible reading, invoking the blessings of the Almighty. The welcome speech warmly acknowledged the Brothers community and elucidated the significance of the occasion.
As a token of respect and appreciation, the Tamil department honored Rev. Bro. Dominic Savio and Rev. Bro. Arockiaswamy with shawls and gifts, symbolizing the students’ and staff’s love and gratitude. The Principal, Rev. Bro. Dominic Savio’s speech emphasized the paramount importance of celebrating this auspicious occasion.
