“Be the light”, is the Hallmark of every Montfort student. We expect the students entrusted to our care will conduct themselves to the satisfaction of all concerned and leave the school after a holistic development, as god fearing youths, useful to themselves, their parents and the society.
1. GENERAL DISCIPLINE
i. Students must show respect and deference to the school authorities and to the members of the staff at all times, both inside and outside the school campus.
ii. Students must always be punctual. Coming late to class this considered a serious offense.
iii. The classrooms, study hall and school premises must be kept clean. Damage done to building, furniture, library books, sports goods, etc…, must be compensated for apart from taking the student responsible into task.
iv. Students are not permitted to leave the campus without the permission of the principal.
v. Smoking, intake of alcohol, chewing tobacco and betel nut is prohibited, inside or outside the campus.
vi. Periodicals and books of low moral standards will not be permitted inside the school organisation.
vii. Organising or attending meetings in the school campus or collection of funds for any purpose without the prior information of the principal is forbidden.
viii. Bullying others, stealing things, using vulgar language, unruly behaviour, spreading rumours, unhealthy companionship; inside or outside the school premises is condemned.
ix. Disturbing or distracting students of opposite sex is considered a serious offence.
x. Fighting, violence, causing injuries to other students; inside or outside the campus will be a punishable offence.
xi. Forming groups or instigating students to go against other students, management, staff or workers is considered a serious offence.
xii. Trespassing the privacy or dignity of other students or staff or workers will not be accepted.
xiii. Proper use of toilet and disposal of waste in the assigned place should be adhered to by all the students.
xiv. Electronic equipment is not permitted. Photographic and video camera cell phones, walkman, etc…, must be deposited with the warden. Gadgets and electronic goods found being possessed by students, will be find 10 times the cost of the gadget in addition to other disciplinary measures. They will also have to forfeit the gadget.
2. DRESS CODE FOR THE STUDENTS
i. For Boys, shirts must be worn tucked in, with formal black belt.
ii. The uniform for Boys and Girls shall be plain, without design or decorative stitching.
iii. Jeans, T-shirts without collars, Pyjamas and kurthas are not permitted in the school campus.
iv. Students belonging to various religions cannot adopt the customs of their religion and formalities in the school uniform.
v. The colour pants and shirts brought to the school should be formal. Fancy shirts and trousers are not permitted in the school / boarding. Students are not permitted to wear T-shirts on Wednesdays, during class hours and Birthdays. They may wear T-Shirts with collars during evening hours after the games and bath.
vi. Extra sets of colour shirts, coloured trousers, shoes and any other items which are not mentioned in the above list need not be brought to the school. Only one large suitcase and a small handbag are permitted in the dormitory. Other suitcase and bags must be taken back by the parents after arranging their clothes in the cupboard provided.
vii. Students are not permitted to borrow any item whatsoever from their companions. (clothes, games equipment, books, notebooks and other stationery items).
viii. Students must wear neat and clean uniform. They should keep their hair, teeth, finger nails and hands clean at all times. They should appear neat at all times.
ix. Boys should have short and smart haircuts. Hair must not touch the collar and must be sloped at the sides and rear, without touching the eyebrows and/ or ears. No sideburns or ducktails are allowed. They should be clean-shaved and no facial hair is allowed.
x. Fancy hairstyling, tinting, dyeing, highlighting, bleaching or perming of hair is not allowed for any student.
xi. Girls having hair longer than shoulder level, should tie it up with black ribbon or band or clip. Fringes must be above the eyebrows and hair must be pinned behind the ears.
xii. Except for a small stud or earring, no other jewellery of any material is permitted.
xiii. Exemption of uniform can be made only with the permission of the Principal / Vice Principal, and entry to be made in the Handbook.
3. INSTRUCTIONS TO DAYSCHOLARS
Montfort this a residential school and the Day Scholars are admitted only if they have been living in yercaud for more than 10 years and have to produce the tax paid receipt of their stay at Yercaud.
i. If the border is not able to adjust in the hostel due to health reasons he /she is advised to be withdraw from the hostel by the end of the academic year. There is no permission for them to stay as day scholars.
ii. Day scholars should participate in all the curricular and co-curricular activities of the school just like the borders.
iii. Day Scholars are not expected to be seen roaming around in the Yercaud Town or elsewhere or behave in a way that will lower the credibility of the school.
iv. They are prohibited from making errands, telephone calls or posting letters on behalf of students/ staff of the school.
v. Day Scholars using bicycles are required to obtain and entry pass from the school office and it should be parked in the allotted place. Bicycle riding is not permitted inside the school premises.
vi. Bringing of eatables inside the campus is prohibited.
vii. All leave must be with the prior permission of the principal except when indisposed. Parents of the day scholar should send the leave letter to the school authority the very next day itself.
4. ATTENDANCE AND ABSENCE
i. Any leave is to be taken only with the prior permission of the principal through a duly authorised letter by the parent.
ii. If leave is availed due to illness, information should reach the school authorities within 2 days’ time and the student must produce the medical certificate and a brief report of the treatment received when he returns to school.
iii. Any student who absents himself without prior permission of the principle or those who fail to report to school on due date will be removed from the hostel and the school. Even if admitted he will have to pay a fine.
iv. Applying leave for social and religious function is prohibited.
v. Those producing false medical certificate for leave will have to forfeit their seat at the end of the academic year.
vi. Parents sending a letter or fax seeking permission for leave of absence should confirm the same by the principal before they come to collect their children.
vii. 85% of attendance is compulsory for all students. Without this criteria promotion will not be considered. Students of grades X and XII who fall short of 80% of attendance will not be permitted to take the board exam.
viii. Students are requested to utilise the terminal holidays for tours/ pilgrimage and religious functions. They will not be permitted for these on working days.
ix. Students will be permitted to attend weddings and other program associated only with the immediate siblings and not with their relatives.
x. Parents and students who have not taken prior permission to return late to school after holidays will meet the principal only after 9:30 a.m.
* All festival may not be declared holidays as it is a residential school. Hence do not plan on holidays, not prescribed in the handbook.
5. VACATIONS, VISITING WEEKENDS, CLOSING AND REOPENING DAYS
i. Parents and students will sign in the register whenever they return to the school.
ii. Whenever students leave the school or return to school after vacation they should be accompanied by the parents. If this is not possible parents should send an authorisation letter with a photograph of the person deputed, along with the parents ID card.
iii. If the parents are not able to meet a particular teacher on the closing day kindly approach the principle regarding whatever the matter.
iv. BIRTHDAY VISIT is permitted only for the parents and only on Sundays that precede the birthday or the Sunday immediately after the birthday between 12:45 p.m. and 1:25 p.m. with prior permission from the principal. Students will not be permitted to go out of the school campus during such visits. Relatives are not permitted.
v. Each student is issued an identity card, similarly every parent is given and ID card. Parents are requested to carry this ID card at all times when they visit school. They will be permitted to collect the child only after producing the ID card, to secure the permission slip.
vi. Special arrangements are made by the school authorities to take care of foreigners, NRI and students from other states while staying back in the school during short breaks or holidays.
vii. On reopening and closing days, the students should be in their Wednesday uniforms, minus the tie for boys and chudidar with dupatta for girls.
viii. Boys returning from holidays should have a neat haircut.
* The school does not advise the students to stay with their friends or classmates either during the visiting weekends or terminal holidays.
* In principle the school does not favour children travelling alone and staying with relations and friends during vacations and breaks.
* In the case of girl students, only parents will be permitted to take them out or meet the children. Relatives or deputed guardians will not be permitted.
6. TESTS, EXAMINATIONS AND EVALUATION
The school prepares the students for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and Indian Secondary Certificate (ISC) examination by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi.
i. Students appearing for all examinations should be present in school uniforms.
ii. Progress of the pupil is assessed by means of slip test, unit test and Terminal Examinations.
iii. The final exam alone is not the deciding factor for promotion. Result of all exams attended during the academic year will be taken into consideration for promotion.
iv. Pupil absent for any of examinations without valid reason and without prior permission will not be considered for promotion to the next class. Even if absent with prior permission re-examination will not be held except for the students who represents the school for some competitions or programs during the days of the examinations, with the permission of the principal.
v. Promotion will be given being the child has got a minimum average of 40% mark in all subjects.
vi. Physical Education, music, Moral science, religious instructions examination will also be taken into consideration for ranking and promotion.
vii. At the end of every examination the progress report is prepared and sent to the parents. They are expected to keep the progress card of the child’s performance in various examinations.
viii. Parents are requested to follow up the performance of their child’s studies in unit test and terminal examination keenly, from the beginning of the academic year.
ix. You are requested to bring along the report of progress report when you approach the principal, concerning the academic performance of your child.
x. In case of promotion, the decision of the principal is the final.
* Indulging in mal practices of any type inside or outside the examination hall will result in immediate dismissal of the students with appropriate remarks on the Transfer Certificate.
7. MEDICAL EMERGENCIES
Whenever the children are indisposed or sick they are taken care of at the school infirmary via resident doctor, nurse and trained nursing attendance.
Children who need special attention are regularly taken down to Salem for further check-up and subsequent treatment. In spite of these efforts is the concerned child is not recovering according to our expectations or when the nature of the illnesses is serious, the school authorities will immediately contact the parent by telephone. Hence parents are requested not to rush to the school or get perturbed about the health of their child hearing from other unauthorised sources.
When the students are taken home by parents for further medical treatment, if the child is not recovering within 5 days, they are expected to contact the school authority and keep them informed about the progress of the child health.
While the schools take utmost care in the health of its students, it is not responsible for any untoward misfortune that may befall its inmates.
8. GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS
i. Parents are expected to look into the overall performance of the child rather than limiting their concerns to the marks received in the examinations.
ii. During the working hours, if a parent wants to meet the child for some urgent reason, he or she shall inform about it in the principal’s office and not go to the class or see the child immediately.
iii. Parents are requested not to entertain any character assassination of teachers or other management staff in the presence of their children or to other parents. If they have any complaints they made bring it to the notice of the principal.
iv. Whenever there is a change of address kindly inform the school office about the same immediately.
v. Be courteous and polite when they visit the school. If the parents are found interfering in the smooth functioning of the school, the school authorities will not be able to retain their ward in the school.
vi. Parents are requested not to disturb the regular rhythm of the school and boarding by their frequent visits or phone calls or by sending messengers with parcels and goods. However, if there is an urgent need to meet their child children or to hand over certain items to them, they may do so on Sundays between 12:45 p.m. and 1:25 p.m.
vii. You are requested not to send couriers, especially liquid, oily and perishable items by courier.
viii. Visitors and parents are requested to see to be seated in the reception. The reception is a silent zone and should be respected as such.
ix. It would be useful to maintain a separate file for the child/children containing all the details, communications and performance of the child from the time of his/her admission.
x. Kindly go through the handbook to see if there are any remarks entered regarding your child behaviour/ academic performance.
xi. Check how serious your child is in class and studies and hold them and accountable, so that he/she is target oriented.
xii. Please note that students and parents are not permitted to give any gifts to the staff, workers or to other school mate.
xiii. Parents are not permitted to smoke or chew tobacco in the school premises. Please advise the same to drivers and guardians.
xiv. You are not permitted to deposit any cash with anyone inside the school other that the treasure.
xv. Students of foreign nationality and NRIs should have valid passport and visa for the period of their study in the school. The passport and visa must be submitted to the treasurer on the arrival at the beginning of the academic year as well as after the holidays when they return from home. It can be collected from the treasurer when they are leaving the country. A register will be maintained for the same. It is the duty of the parent to renew the passport and visa well in advance before its expiry date.
*The management and the school authorities are not responsible for the loss of any valuable articles or belongings of the students. It is the responsibility of the students to take care of their belongings.
* The school authorities reserve the right to take appropriate disciplinary action including dismissal against any student whose conduct is determinable to the moral tone and educative atmosphere of the school.
