‘Excellence is not a destination, it is a continuous battle for perfection!’
Sports instill discipline, perseverance and a strong team-work, benefitting all areas of life. They also promote personal growth, self- improvement and resilience. Keeping that in mind, Our Montfort School, Yercaud organises Tournaments every year, providing a platform for competition. This allows individuals or teams to test their skills and abilities against others and also to build social connections, creating a sense of community and belonging among the participants.
We are proud to announce that our elite Montfort school, Yercaud organised the Montfort Tournaments on 30th and 31st of August, 2024 which was open to all the schools. Over the course of two action-packed days, our school had the privilege of hosting 20 schools. Around 487 talented participants competed in various sports. The energy was electric and the excitement was palpable as players pushed themselves to new heights, demonstrating remarkable skills, strategy and teamwork.
On 30th August, 2024, we dived into the thrilling world of sports with an opening ceremony. We began the grand occasion with a prayer. Our principal Rev.Bro. Domnic Savio welcomed and presented all the school representatives with a rose and a souvenir.
Montfort school oraganises Football Tournaments every year in the memory of Bro. Eleazar. Basketball tournament in the memory of Bro.Antony of Padua. The 54th Table tennis and 53rd Tennis tournaments were also organised respectively. Excitement and enthusiasm for the competition were infectious. Each sport was organised meticulously by the Department of Physical Education under the guidance of Principal and other community of the Brothers.
The highlights of the tournaments were :
In Tennis, senior singles category: Mast. Saikaran from Montfort School, Yercaud secured the first place, while Parthiban from Bharathi Vidyabhavan school, Erode took second place, and Niven Frankie from
Montfort School stood third. In Tennis, senior doubles category: Mast. Saikaran and Mast. Niven Frankie from Montfort School, Yercaud claimed the top spot, followed by Parthiban and Pavish Sakthivel from Bharathi Vidyabhavan School, Erode secured second place, with Mast.Kevin and Mast.Abishek from Montfort School, Yercaud in third place. In table tennis, students from Bharathi Vidyabhavan, Erode Mast.Dhanvandh Adith and Mast. Karthik won first place in the senior doubles category, while Mast.Antonious Jeyru and Mast. Apollo Gabriel from Trichy Campion Anglo- Indian Hr.Sec School secured second place, and Miss.Lourdeslas Heartreena and Mast.Lakshan from Montfort School placed third. In basketball, St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Salem claimed the first position, while Chennai’s St. Peter’s Higher Secondary School and Santhome Higher Secondary School secured second and third places, respectively. In football, students from Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Salem took the top spot, followed by Annai Velankanni Higher Secondary School, Bathalagundu secured second place, and Montfort School bagged the third position.
The closing ceremony of the Montfort Tournaments took place on the 31st of August in the evening after the completion of all matches and with the arrival of chief guest, Montfort alumnus, the whirl wind athelete, Mr.Naveen Rajesh, who was a medalist in the Asian Games in 2019 and finalist at shotput and hammer throw in the Asian games held at Philippines in 2023, presently an entrepreneur. The programme began with a performance by the school choir, followed by speeches and dances. The most awaited hour went with the honouring of the winners with cash prizes, trophies, and certificates. In his speech, the chief guest appreciated and motivated the students and expressed the paramount importance of sports and games in the lives of an individual.
The Montfort Tournaments concluded successfully as the participants departed to their respective destination, while the Host school and the Management were satisfied that all was well, that ends well!
