The 109th Annual Sports Meet of Montfort School, Yercaud, was held on 5th July with great enthusiasm and splendour, upholding the spirit of sportsmanship and tradition. The event took place in the Unifield , set against the backdrop of the Shevaroy Hills, and witnessed active participation from students, staff, alumni, and esteemed guests.
The program began with the arrival of the Chief Guest, Mr. P. Ashok Kumar, the Guest of honour, Rev. Bro. Domnic Savio, Provincial Superior of Yercaud Province, Past Principals, treasured parents, well-wishers, special invitees, dedicated members of the Montfort Alumni Association, beloved members of the staff, students and other dignitaries, who were warmly welcomed by the school community and escorted by the school band. The Chief Guest unfurled the National Flag, while the School Flag was hoisted by Rev.Bro. Arockia Sahayaraj, Principal and Director of Montfort School, marking the formal commencement of the event. This was followed by the rendition of the National Anthem, the School Song, and a Prayer Song, setting a solemn and respectful tone for the day.
The School Captain, Master Sairam Subramanian marched forward and formally reported to the Chief Guest, signaling the beginning of the March Past, in which 300 athletes participated. The three houses, Montfort, Gabriel and Patrick formed 12 contingents showcasing discipline and unity in the ceremonial parade. The highlight of the parade was the grand entrance of the Olympic Torch and horses, symbolizing the enduring spirit of athletic excellence.
A solemn Oath-Taking Ceremony was held, led by the School Captain, where all participants pledged to uphold the values of fairness and dedication. The Chief Guest then officially declared the 109th Annual Sports Meet open.
One of the most nostalgic moments was the Montfort Alumni March Past, where former students joined the parade, rekindling their bond with their alma mater. This was followed by the much-anticipated track events, where athletes competed with great zeal and vigour. The excitement peaked during the Relay
Race between Old Boys and Present Boys, a spirited event that blended competition with camaraderie.
The aquatic events added a refreshing dimension to the forenoon program, showcasing swimming talents across different groups and categories.
The 109th Annual Sports Meet was not just a display of physical strength and stamina but also a celebration of the Montfortian legacy of discipline, unity, and sportsmanship.
The afternoon session of the 109th Annual Sports Meet at Montfort School, Yercaud, commenced at 1:15pm with the arrival of the Chief Guests, dignitaries, and well-wishers. The program began on a spiritual note with an invocation, seeking divine blessings for the continued success of the event and the Montfortian community.
This was followed by a warm note of welcome, expressing heartfelt appreciation to the guests, parents, alumni, and participants for their presence and encouragement. The welcome dance, performed by the students, captivated the audience with its vibrant energy and graceful presentation, symbolizing the unity and cultural richness of the school.
The felicitation ceremony honoured the distinguished guests, recognizing their achievements and contributions to society, and reaffirming the school’s value of gratitude and respect for excellence.
The highlight of the afternoon were the drill displays. The Montfort house started it off with a drill on their theme ‘Martial Arts to Promote Peace and Humanity’. Up next was the Gabriel house, captivating the audience with an exciting drill on their theme, ‘Ancient Tamil Culture’.The last house was the Patrick house, with their drill on the Theme ‘Artificial Intelligence ‘. The enthusiastic juniors entertained everyone with a dance drill on the theme of the year, ‘Design your Destiny’. The girls presented their drill, ‘Fiabesca Cadenza’ – A Fairy Tale Dance. Last but not least was the mass drill where the boy students of all the houses assembled with full of enthusiasm and coordination. The synchronized formations, rhythmic movements, and spirited coordination of all the students were a testament to weeks of hard work, discipline, and teamwork.
The prize distribution ceremony was a proud moment for all, as medals, trophies, and certificates were awarded to outstanding athletes and champions
