State Level Montfort Tournaments – 2025
The long awaited State Level Montfort Tournaments composed of 55th Table Tennis Tournament, 54th Montfort Tennis Tournament, 31st Bro. Antony of Padua Memorial Football & Bro.Eleazar Memorial Basketball Tournamentswas held on 16th and 17th August 2025. The Montfort Tournaments began with great enthusiasm and spirit in a grand inauguration ceremony. The chief guest was Mr. Kiran, Alumnus of 2015 batch, who represented India in the Asian Games addressed the participants to take part in the tournaments actively without worrying about the results and to encourage everyone. A special highlight of this year’s tournament was the introduction of volleyball for the first time in memory of Brother Wilfred, who dedicated several years of service to Montfort. To mark the occasion, the captains of the different sports Football – Master Anantha Kumaran, Basketball – Master Jaswanth Raja Gopal, Volleyball – Master Lakshan, Tennis – Master Niven Frankie, and Table Tennis – Master Sanath Akash – were presented with rackets and balls as a symbolic gesture of the tournaments. Rev.Bro.Arockia Sahayaraj sg , the Principal then addressed the gathering and encouraged them to play with dedication, integrity, and sportsmanship. There were 1200 participants from more than 65 schools all over Tamilnadu.
The tournaments featured intense and thrilling contests across all disciplines. In football, NLC School Neyveli faced SDAT Trichy in a nail-biting clash. The match ended 1–1, and in the penalty shootout NLC Neyveli held their nerve to secure victory 5–4. Basketball provided another edge-of-the-seat encounter as St. Mary’s edged past NLC Neyveli with a score of 67–61, displaying remarkable skill and team effort. Tennis too had its share of excitement when Master Umaith and Master Pranav Karthi were tied 3-all, before Umaith eventually clinched the match. Volleyball saw a spirited final where St. Peter’s and St. Mary’s shared one set each, before St. Peter’s dominated the deciding set 25–16 to secure the title. In table tennis, the match between Vernica and Dishon went down to the wire, each winning a set, before Vernica triumphed 11–8 in the deciding game.
The final results reflected the outstanding performances of all teams and players. In football, NLC Neyveli emerged champions, while SDAT Trichy took the runner-up spot. Basketball honors went to Velammal Bodhi Campus, Ponneri, Chennai, who claimed first place, with St. Peter’s, Chennai, finishing second. In volleyball, St. Peter’s, Chennai, secured the championship, while St. Mary’s, A.N. Mangalam, came in second. The tennis singles title was won by Master Sai Karan of Montfort, Yercaud, followed by Pavizhan of B.V.B. Erode secured second and Master Niven Frankie of Montfort, Yercaud, secured third. In doubles, Masters Abhishek and Abhilash of Sri Vijay, Dharmapuri, took top honors, while the Montfort duo, Master Sai Karan and Master Niven Frankie, finished as runners-up.
The concluding ceremony was graced by Mr. Sanjay Manikandan, Alumnus of 2017 batch and a national-level swimmer. He delivered an inspiring address on sportsmanship, motivating the students to value discipline, teamwork, and determination. The tournaments came to a memorable close with the distribution of Rolling Trophy with a cash award of Rs.20,000/- for First position, Rs.15,000/- for Second position, Rs.10,000/- for Third position and Rs8,000/- for Fourth position respectively,cups and certificates celebrating the achievements and sportsman spirit.
The vibrant presence of Mr.Raman Vijayan – Former Indian Player, presently the head coach of Gokulam Kerala (women’s team) football club and Rev.Bro.Varghese – our Former Principal added flavor to the occasion. Rev.Bro.Arockia Sahayaraj, thanked all the participants and the heads of their institutions for being a part this memorable event. Special note of thanks was rendered to the department of Physical education headed by Mr.Jayakumar – Physical Education Director, Mr.Vasantha kumar – Physical Education Teacher and Mr.Thomas Amalraj – Head of the Physical Education department.
