‘Faith in words, Freedom in mind, with pride in our hearts we salute our Nation!’
The 78th Independence Day of India was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotism at Montfort School’s Assembly Ground, on August 15, 2024, at 9:30 am. The programme began with the flag-hoisting ceremony, where the chief guest, Dr George Paul, a renowned consultant Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon, and our Principal, Rev.Bro.Dominic Savio, proudly unfurled the National flag and the School flag.
Dr George Paul, a surgical specialist in dentistry and practicing in Salem, is also a qualified law graduate. His illustrious career is marked by his tenure as the former national Honorable. General Secretary and National President of the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons of India. Notably, he is an alumnus of Montfort School where he studied here from 1967-1974, making this year the 50th anniversary of his class’s graduation.
The programme commenced with a prayer, prayer song, and Bible reading, seeking blessings for our nation and its people. The Class 8 students took charge of the programme, showcasing their talents and dedication.
At the outset, the chief guest, Dr. George Paul, was adorned with a shawl, bouquet, and memento by our Principal Rev.Bro. Dominic Savio, Bro.Arokya Sami, and Bro. David, as a token of appreciation. Dr.Achamma Bini George was also honoured with a shawl and a bouquet.
The girls’ dance performance highlighted the significance of being Indian citizens, while the powerful speeches about freedom fighters inspired the audience. The primary preppies showcased their talents, followed by a skit on Maruthanagayam, which portrayed the story of Yusuf Khan, a great military general who initially worked with the British but later rebelled against them. He made history by being the first Indian to lower the British flag, showcasing his bravery and patriotism.
The prize distribution ceremony recognized the winners of the Sports Day events and teachers who excelled in Olympiads. The programme ended with a patriotic fervor in the hearts and minds of one and all!
