An educational tour to Andaman was organised for the class of VII to XII. The tour started on 6th of October and concluded on 12th October. A total of 110 students and 6 teachers & 4 Brothers travelled by Indigo flight from Chennai to Port Blair. The accommodation was decent in a beach resort named as Peerless Resort at Port Blair.
The first visit was to cellular Jail at Port Blair. There was a guide to explain the history of the Jail, how the prison life was for our freedom fighters, various punishments given to them, the various types of tortures they underwent etc., Later in the evening there was a light and sound show depicting the history and structure of the cellular Jail, prisoners life, how British dominated and tortured our Indian freedom fighters and about the bomb attack by Japan during World War II.
Next day the trip was to Ross Island presently known as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island by a ferry ride. A battery vehicle ride and guide gave us lot of information about the history of the Island. Many shopping facility was also available. This was followed by a ferry ride to North Bay Island. Various water sports like Kayaking, Snorkeling and Scuba diving was organised here. Students enjoyed these adventurous activities and were back to their resort for next day’s early trip to Havelock Island.
The day started early, as the travelers had to board the cruise to Havelock Island by 8 AM, soon after breakfast. The cruise ride was enchanting and exciting, to relax and watch the clear, Ocean colours outside.
It took nearly two hours to reach the island immediately all checked into a resort – Havelock beach resort. After lunch all moved on to various water sports and swimming. Students were excited to go for the adventurous activities like deep sea Snorkeling, Scuba diving, deep sea walk, banana ride, Octopus ride and many more. Ocean water has various shades of green, blue and crystal clear. Students were happy to bathe, swim and play on the beach.
Next they moved to Elephanta beach by a ferry. Students enjoyed the white sand on the coast the crystal clear water, adventurous activities & water rides.
The last day of the trip was a visit to Tsunami affected area in Andamans. The total area and beach were badly affected by Tsunami. Students enjoyed the beach. After shopping and snacks they then went to the Veer Savarkar Air Port at Fort Blair, reached Chennai, then returned back by bus to Yercaud, Montfort School holding the sweet memories of Andaman.
The educational tour programme was educative, fun and adventurous. All the students enjoyed the trip. They gained knowledge and exposure through some experience about the travel, shopping . The group were grateful to Principal Bro-Dominic Savio for giving us such a great opportunity to holiday at Andamans.
